Section 6.4 recommended problems

The work done in moving an object from x=a to x=b is the integral with respect to x of the force f(x) applied.

Computing the work done in stretching a spring can be achieved via Hooke’s law which says the force required to hold a spring stretched x units beyond its resting position is proportional to x: i.e. f(x)=kx.
