Section 13.1

In this section you should learn the basic idea of three-dimensional coordinate systems, the distance formula, and the equation of a sphere.

Here are some recommended problems.

1, 3, 4, 7, 10, 15, 20, 31, 36, 41

You may be asked to answer even numbered problems in an online quiz.  You are free of course to ask questions about them.

  1. Hello Prof. Knese:

Will the solutions to the even numbered recommended problems ever be posted on this website or will they only be available in discussion?

  2. Even numbered problems are fair game for quizzes and in discussion assignments. So, I won’t post all solutions, but I encourage you to ask questions about them here and in discussion.
I have heard the protest in the past that since these problems are recommended I should only recommend odd numbered problems. The problem with this is that many students find creative ways of getting the right answer through incorrect means. The problems without solutions can help you better simulate what happens in an exam.
