Exams

There will be two midterm exams and a comprehensive final. Bring a photo ID to all exams. Scientific (non-graphing) calculators will be permitted on exams but nothing else (no note cards, no books, no phones,…).

Online videos

I will be making videos that will you will be required to watch before each class (see online quizzes section below). These will serve to introduce conceptual material and go through the most basic examples.

Online Quizzes

There will be a online quizzes in between classes. They will consist of two questions: a preview question (something covered in a video) and a question over something in the previous lecture.

Discussion section quizzes/assignments

Discussion sections will consist of some combination of open discussion, Q&A, group work on problems, and quizzes. Much of this will be left to the discretion of the TA who leads your discussion. Every Thursday there will be an in class assignment or quiz of some kind, unless you are told otherwise. These quizzes/assignments will be over the previous Wednesday, Friday, Monday material. Expect these to be challenging problems similar to ones found in the text. A few quiz scores will be dropped.

“Big” Assignments

You will receive two or three “interesting” assignments throughout the quarter. By “interesting,” I mean that they will require thought and will not consist merely of a list of problems to complete.
